Has anyone else found it.... I don't know what the word is.... maybe "odd," or "interesting," that even after all of the movies, books, TV shows, songs, and pictures that involve folks working together, we still, as an American culture, have the tendency to not work together? I have noticed a trend in the entertainment media where there is a primary person, or group of people, that will join up with another person, or group of people, despite their differences, and work toward a common goal. And there are so many stories that follow this. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this is typically the point, or the moral, of said media, but just a small aspect that is prevalent in the background of it, but not separate from it. There are other references to other things that provide other influences, like following your heart, being yourself, helping random folks on the side, pursuing your love/passion, etc.... and maybe I'm inadvertently speaking for these, too.
With all of these themes influencing us and, more or less, pushing us to be more accepting, offering, and requesting of help, shouldn't we, as a society, have come a bit more further along then we are? Why are some people soooo mean, rude, and inconsiderate, when the entertainment industry that we are so influenced by teaches us -teaches us- to be quite the opposite? Why do people hide secrets, thoughts, and feelings, when we constantly see that releasing said information provides such peace and community?
Retorts blaming it on sin, selfishness, greed, lusts for power, and so forth, as being the reason are essentially considered moot when we realize that what the stories are telling us is that good always conquers evil in the stories, and in real life, in the end. So, why not just give up and join the good side? The Dark Side may have cookies, but so does the Light Side, plus fried chicken and sweet tea at a beach picnic in pleasant weather, if everyone who is able would just do their part willingly.
And now I feel like I'm being the rude and inconsiderate one.... But I'm trying to give the information so that things may progress to meet what these stories claim we're capable of.
